Joy in the Holy Ghost (bass)

By Bass LeviteThe bass "walks" everywhere in this song! Hard to master at first for beginners, but it is very fun to play once you know how to. Intro---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------0-1-2--3-0-1-2-3-0-1-2-3-0-1-2-3-------the last 3 notes above is actually played 1 octave higher in the song, but I didn't do so because it would be out

Love is the Reversal

Been wanting to put up this song for quite awhile, but somehow it slipped my mind.. really like this song, enjoy! One thing about this song is that I used the same patch throughout, and adjusted the level of distortion by i) plucking with my fingers instead of strumming, or ii) using my neck pickup instead of the bridge. TabsIntro & VersePluck/strum-----------------------12--5--8-10---7--8---

One Way Bridge Variation

Here's something i cooked up using the usual 8th note dotted delay.. instead of strumming the chords I played the notes separately, muting the bass notes. Hope you enjoy it: TabsPlay each chord note-by-note:-------------------------------------4---9--7--5--4-------3--4--4---8--6--4--4----4--4--6--2---6--4--2--2----2----------------------------------------------------

Practicing & Composing with a Loop Pedal

Just bought a loop pedal.. its a pedal that loops anything you've played, and often comes with some simple drum tracks. Although it doesn't sound much, its a great way to practice riffs as you can change the tempo of your recording, and playback your guitaring. It's also a great way to compose riffs and songs, for example by trying out different riffs with chord progressions.Check out this

Free lesson in Guitar Rock Methods

Whether or not you were tempted by Chris Elmore's Guitar Giveaway competition ( see previous post ), I'm sure most of my Blog readers will be pleased to hear that I've persuaded Chris to let go of a mouth-watering sample from his forthcoming Rock Methods guitar instruction course.

Regular readers will know Chris as the maestro behind Elmore Music, which has previously produced Guitar Tips, Guitar Songs, Guitar Backing Tracks, and Speed Guitar Learning - some of the best guitarist resources on the planet.

When I pointed out to Chris that not all of my readers would feel up to submitting a video of themselves playing guitar on YouTube, to be included in the contest, but that many of them are indeed aspiring rock musicians, he very kindly agreed to release an exclusive video lesson taken from the yet to be released Rock Methods Course.

Win a Dave Mustaine Guitar!

My very good friend Chris Elmore, who you will know from the great guitar 'mini-lessons' he provides for my blog and for my monthly newsletter, is holding a contest with a superb Dave Mustaine guitar as the main prize. You can actually check out the guitar at this link:

http://www.guitartrader.com/Dean-Dave-Mustaine-Bolt-on-Electric-Guitar

Ok, so to win this guitar, or one of the other contest prizes, Chris wants you to submit a YouTube video of yourself performing on guitar. He explains it fully in this short video clip:

How to win the Dave Mustaine Guitar

Take a look at the video clip ( about 2 mins ) - if you think you have what it takes to impress Chris, just follow the instructions on the page, and you're on your way to bringing home an awesome guitar. Please don't be shy about this - I know Chris is not necessarily looking for someone who can replicate an existing guitar riff. If you think there is anything special you can do, this is your chance to show off your talent, and maybe bag a big prize in the process.

The link to enter the contest again is: How to win the Dave Mustaine Guitar

Regular subscribers will know that Chris is absolutely the most genuine guy in the guitar learning world. As well as regularly providing great free guitar tips for my guitar newsletter readers, he sponsored some amazing prizes for my 5 million and 10 million visitor celebrations. This contest is to celebrate the release of his latest learning program - 'Rock Methods', and runners-up in the contest will receive copies of this course. I haven't had sight of this course yet ( it won't be launched for a while ) but I know that it will be up to the standard of excellence of all of the Elmore Music learning tools.

I would encourage you to take part in this contest, show the world what you can do, and hopefully, bring home that fabulous guitar!

Meanwhile, I will be adding some songs to my chords and lyrics website which will hopefully meet your requirements.

Enjoy your music,

PJ

Greetings from Tokyo!

Hi from Tokyo! If you recall, I mentioned checking out the guitar shops here. Dropped by the area, and their offerings are truly amazing.. about a dozen of guitar shops along the same street, stocked full of guitars and pedals, some even up to 5 floors of instruments. Check it out:Even cooler were the guitarists here.. came across this busker while shopping at Shinjuku:Visited the Shinjuku

Mastering the Fretboard using just 2 forms!

My friend Andy Koblick, the mastermind behind the Guitar5Day learning program has been working on a pretty revolutionary new course - Project X - mainly aimed at those guitar players who have plateaued ( is that a word? - ah I'm sure you know what I mean! ), and want to take their playing to another level.

He has kindly given me a video extract from this 5 DVD course for my Guitar Tips Blog subscribers.

The lesson shows how it is possible to achieve mastery of your fretboard using just two of the forms from the traditional CAGED system. Certainly food for thought, check it out at the link below:

If you're intrigued, and you think this may be the key you've been waiting for to unlock your potential, check out the website, Andy has also very kindly offered my readers a $30 discount on the course, if you click on the link below:

I'll be back sometime in mid-June, dewa mata!

An Attitude of Excellence

BackgroundRecently, one of the boys in my cell group complained that church was 'boring', and that the worship was 'insincere'.I thought deeper into it, and realised that these were surface excuses. The main issue was that he was not interested in God at all. If he was, he would have found church exciting - a person chasing after God would look forward to the outpouring of thanksgiving during

Down but not Out!

Unfortunately, an old thumb injury came back after organising a 4-5 hour long audition, made worse by my unhealthy typing posture. Other than investing in an ergonomic keyboard, I need to rest my thumb, so I'll be taking a break from guitaring for the moment, till I recover. Hope it won't be long, but in the meantime, will appreciate some prayer - its really miserable not being able to play right

Explore the world of Chords

Chris Elmore, creator of the ElmoreMusic series of guitar lessons and resources, has once again supplied a short, but very useful lesson for my Blog, which should be of help to all learning guitarists.

Chris has been a top guitarist for years, and has brought all of his experience and learning to the table in passing on his knowledge with the ElmoreMusic ( click the link for more info ) set of lessons. His GuitarTips course covers playing chords, arpeggious etc, but he has created an article showing my Blog readers how these techniques are related and how to be creative with working out neat arpeggios from chord sequence - and vice-versa! . Check out this guitar tip at the link below:

BTW, Chris has offered a great deal to my Blog readers - lifetime subscription to his fantastic Guitar Tips learning program for an unbelievable $27 ( it was already a steal at $49.95 ).

None But Jesus (pentatonic scale)

After Jerome did the tabs for None but Jesus, I was improvising over the instrumental, and came up with this variation which makes heavy use of the pentatonic scale. The pentatonic scale comprises of just 5 notes - 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 - so its a good tool to start your improvisations. C major (or A minor) pentatonic scales look like this:------------------5-8-----------------5-8----------------5-7-

Improve your sound with effects

Chris Elmore, owner/creater of ElmoreMusic, and co-owner with myself of GuitarBackingTracks has supplied another very useful tip for all musicians struggling to get 'that' sound.

Chris has been playing guitar at the top level for more years than he would want to even think about! It was a logical progression from this to passing on his knowledge and expertise to learning guitar players thru the great courses at ElmoreMusic. His GuitarTips course covers effects and sounds in detail, but he has taken time out to share a few pearls of musical wisdom with my Blog readers. Check out the effects tip below:

14 Minute Video Guitar Chords lesson

I have been singing the praises of Dan Denleys guitar courses - AmazingGuitar, BluesGuitar, LeadGuitar and AcousticGuitar for some time now. The link to the Acoustic course has been displaying "Sold Out" for some weeks now, but it is being relaunched tomorrow, Fri 14th March at 11 a.m. Eastern time. To celebrate the relaunch, Dan has given me a POWERFUL, 14 minute free video lesson crammed with incredible info about guitar CHORDS to share with my Blog readers. In this video you'll discover:

-> How chords are related to scales...

-> Why some chords are maj, minor, dom, etc.

-> What guitarists mean when they say... "two
chord" or "five chord" etc.

-> Which chords come from the major scale

-> The difference between a triad and a 7th
chord...

...and a LOT more.

You can watch it here right now:

14 Minute Guitar Chords Lesson - From Dan Denley's AcousticGuitarSecrets course

This video shows extracts of Dan's Acoustic Guitar Secrets course,
which is fast becoming THE standard for learning acoustic guitar.
The course completely sold out when it was released back in December,
hence the unavailable message you will have seen if you clicked the
link recently.

Now, *finally* it's going to be available again, remember it's
tomorrow: Fri, Mar 14 at 11AM (eastern).

Oh - and you can also download this video and watch on your iPod.
Just look for the "iPod" link.

I own a copy of this course, and it has done more to improve my
guitar playing than anything I've tried in the past 20 years.
Seriously. I would strongly advise anyone who REALLY wants to be
a "Guitar Player" to grab a copy of the course, you won't regret
it. But get in early, I have a feeling that the "Sold Out" signs
will be back up fairly soon, also Dan is making noises about
splitting the course into 3 seperate courses, which will almost
certainly increase the cost.

Either ways, you can enjoy the free 14-minute video lesson at:

Play Guitar Backwards!

Once again, a tip from Chris Elmore, owner/creater of ElmoreMusic

This is a brilliant article/lesson, with tab, sound and video, where Chris shows you how to play some really fancy and nifty riffs on lead guitar. Just watching Chris's hand movements as he switches between standard and "backward" fretting with his left hand makes you want to stop what you're doing and try that out right away!!

I'm not a lead guitarist myself, but I find with the help of the lessons ( like this one ) generously made available to my Blog readers by Chris and others, I'm starting to surprise my friends at our jam sessions. The look of astonishment on their faces when I add in a nifty lead break on one of the other players' numbers is priceless!

Blues You can Use

This tip comes from Chris Elmore, owner/creater of ElmoreMusic

Chris has provided a great article-cum-lesson, which gives a short introduction to The Blues and it's influences on today's guitarists, and a lesson, with tabs and audio which will give you an insight into how standard blues playing patterns have found themselves into many of the modern music genres. If you're not already familiar with blues rhythms and patterns, it's a great introductory lesson, I think you'll really find it useful. If you are.... well, ditto!!
